Clinical Pastoral Education is interfaith professional education for ministry. It brings theological students and ministers of all faiths into supervised ministry encounters with persons from all walks of life and various life circumstances. Out of an intensive involvement with persons in need, and the feedback from peers and the CPE Supervisor, students develop new awareness of themselves as persons and of the needs of those to whom they minister. From theological reflection on specific human situations students gain a new understanding of themselves and ministry. Each CPE unit will, in many ways, be a unique experience for each student. The CPE process is designed to guide the student through knowledge-of-self through various means. CPE offered through the Institute for Clinical Pastoral Training is designed for graduate level (and equivalent) students who are interested in pursuing or already serving in a career in hospital, military, corrections, police, fire, and other institutional chaplaincy ministries in a high-quality, experiential education process. To learn more about CPE with the Institute for Clinical Pastoral Training and how you can enroll in an upcoming CPE unit, contact me or visit www.clinicalpastoraled.org.
The application process for Clinical Pastoral Education with me as your supervisor is a three-step process.
1. Contact me to set up an initial interview to determine eligibility for the program. You may contact Chaplain Scott Savell via Email or 470.242.7273 (Google Voice - follow prompts). You can also complete and submit the interest form below.
2. After completing the initial interview with me, submit a completed application, together with appropriate fees, to the Institute for Clinical Pastoral Training (ICPT). Application information and forms are found at www.clinicalpastoraled.org/application.html. Information about tuition (standard and with evidenced based enhancement) can be found via the aforementioned link.
3. Upon acceptance by ICPT, you must secure your own clinical placement where you will complete your clinical hours. In most cases, your clinical placement will be performed at your place of ministry such as healthcare, military, corrections, police, fire, or other institutional chaplaincy ministries and even local church settings. I am glad to consult with you about your clinical placement if you have questions or need additional guidance.
Completing CPE units through ICPT and with me does not guarantee employment with any institution.
Striving to glorify God by becoming more like Jesus.
